We have to make a major decision:
Do we live in a bubble,
Isolating ourselves because
Caring is too much trouble?
Or do we get involved in helping
Promote the common good
And feel some satisfaction knowing
That we have done what we could?
Do we watch as people suffer
And not give a damn,
And if we demonstrate concern,
That concern is a sham?
Or do we directly make an effort
To look for concrete ways
To change the circumstances that
Darken people's days?
Do we become selfish and cynical,
Asking "What's it to me?
If they cannot take care of themselves,
Well, c'est le vie."
Or can compassion move our hearts?
Ignoring negative chatter,
Can we believe that every little
Thing we do can matter?
We are part of a giant, complex
Network of interconnections.
Society requires crucial
Support in the way of protections.
If we choose to live in our bubbles,
It might feel fine at first,
But keep mind that at some point
Our comfy bubbles can burst.
