The Politics of Fear

Without a doubt the president

Wants us all to be afraid--

A tactic used by autocrats.

Come on, let's call a spade a spade.

Creating chaos within our cities,

He then sends in the military

Because he says that we're in danger

And falsely claims it's necessary.

He claims that Democrats are evil

And hate our country. Thus, he gets

His supporters to see his opponents

As terrorists and dangerous threats.

He stirs up hatred of trans people

And says that they are a danger as well.

Stirring up fear and hatred for him

Sadly has been an easy sell.

If you say you're anti-fascist,

Trumps says you deserve condemnation,

For you're a member of antifa--

A non-existent organization.

To call anti-fascism

Anti-American is absurd.

"Fascism." Would someone explain

To Trump the meaning of the word?

In the past, Republicans despised

Fascism and sounded alarms.

Now, however, they seem to be

Embracing it with open arms.

Immigrants "infect" the country

According to Trump: another way

That he continues to make his supporters

Feel anxiety and dismay.

He's encouraging his AG

To indict opponents. We are perplexed.

He wants us Americans

To cower and wonder who will be next.

He wants us to be terrified

Of criticizing him, so he

Can stifle freedom of speech and expression.

What's next? MSNBC?

So Trump and many of his supporters

Have a plan to which they adhere:

A plan to derail democracy

By using the politics of fear.
