Exposing the Hypocrite

The "sanctity of traditional marriage"
Allegedly held in high esteem
By Alabama Governor Bentley
Was--truth be told--a political scheme.

Bentley vowed to "defend marriage."
Defend marriage from what? you might ask.
Could he have meant from people like him?
Come on, Bentley, remove your mask.

The governor can profess his praise
Of "traditional values" and we're none the wiser;
At the same time the hypocrite
Was having an affair with his top adviser.

While he condemned marriage equality,
He was having the time of his life
Thumbing his nose at his own marriage
And allegedly messing around on his wife.

Bentley's marriage is his business,
But since the governor has no shame
In depriving others of their rights,
Exposing the hypocrite is fair game.

No New Paradigm: GOP Presidential Debate #11

The GOP Debate--
Number eleven this time--
In no way could be called
A new paradigm.

Though Carson wasn't present--
Which means we're down to four--
Three attacked one another,
Declaring all-out war.

Trump defended his manhood,
Called Cruz a liar,
And put "little Marco" in
The direct line of fire.

Cruz and Rubio attacked
Trump's "flexibility,"
Trying to bring him down
With little attempt at civility.

Kasich distanced himself,
Saying that people assume
That he among the debaters
Is the "adult in the room."

Of course, they brought up Benghazi--
Unable to let it go.
The same thing ad infinitum;
They don't know when to say "Whoa!"

Repealing the ACA
Is one of their constant promises.
What is wrong with these
Republican doubting Thomases?

FOUR from how many were there--
Seventeen, eighteen, twenty?--
Are people I’d hardly call
Our leading cognoscenti.

It's nice the number has dwindled--
There were so many of them.
But frankly there's no way I
Would vote for any of them.

The Kind of Leader We Need?

Trump and Rubio are really going at it
Like two childish brats,
Belittling each other with personal attacks,
Which makes us wonder if that's

The kind of behavior that we would expect
From the leader of this nation.
Whatever else they have to offer
Gives little consolation.

Watching them criticize each other
Could almost be funny if not
For the fact that both are vying for
A high position, or spot.

How much more embarrassing
Will this campaign get?
The thought that either could be president
Makes me break out in a sweat.

We'd like to think our president would
In all practicality
Behave in a grown-up manner reflecting
A mature adult mentality.
