Jimmy's Back!

Jimmy Kimmel is back! Hurray!

He never should have been suspended.

But Trump's attempts to stifle any

Criticism hasn't ended.

Trump seems to get great pleasure

Watching Americans lose their jobs

While HE gives tax breaks to the wealthy

And fraternizes with the nobs.

The man's so terribly insecure

That he is unable to take a joke.

Anyone who voted for him

Really "bought" a pig in a poke.

To silence the voice of anyone

Who's witty enough to make us laugh

At Trump and his ridiculousness--

Along with the craziness of his staff--

Is out of the playbook of dictators.

Trump's idols have all done the same:

Putin, Orbán, and Erdoğan

Are all in the autocrats hall of fame.

Since tyrant Trump will NOT allow

Anyone to criticize him

And calls them anti-American,

He just makes more people despise him.

Let's all give three cheers for Jimmy

And not give in to intimidation.

Trump is the one who needs to be muffled;

Kimmel deserves a standing ovation.

Embarrassing U.N. Fiasco

If Trump has a goal to be respected,

It is very far out of reach,

For he has disgusted the world again--

This time with his U.N. speech.

For someone to sound like a narcissist,

He definitely takes the prize.

His almost an hour-long speech became

A litany of bald-faced lies.

Asked to speak only 15 minutes,

He chose to ignore the request. Not strange.

Touching on the economy,

Immigration, and climate change,

He berated world leaders

And spoke of the wonderful things he's done.

He said he ended seven wars--

Another tale that the spinner has spun.

Of course, he had to criticize

The previous administration.

How can he not see that he

Himself is the real abomination?

His message--Christian nationalistic

At times--was hardly unifying.

In fact, his creepy, bombastic words

Were ultimately world-denying.

He also complained of sabotage--

In typically Trump-like fashion--

Of the escalator and teleprompter.

The far-right jumped on that with passion.

As it turned out, the malfunctions

Were caused by members of Trump's own team.

More examples of carelessness

Existing within the Trump regime?

Foreigners ask if we know how

Embarrassing Trump looks. We do.

They feel that he's stark raving mad.

All we can say is, "That's so true."

Martyrization

Now that Charlie Kirk is dead,

Christian nationalists will ask

If they can make him a Christian martyr.

Would that be a worthwhile task?

To make a martyr of a man

Who while debating stirred up hate

Would be a slap in the face to all

The people he would denigrate.

Radicalizing college students,

Kirk was clear about his goals:

Normalizing bigotry

And feeding ideas to far-right trolls.

His widow said that she forgave

Her husband's killer--a righteous pose.

But Trump used Kirk's memorial

To threaten his political foes.

He and others lie and say

That Charlie Kirk's assassination

Was a left-wing conspiracy--

A false, divisive accusation.

It's true that Kirk fit right in with

The MAGA world, and that's no bluff.

But there are some who think that he

Wasn't radical enough.

Racist Christo-fascists will now

Exploit Kirk's death to plan and scheme

To make his already over-the-top

Ideas even more extreme.

Trump will continue to placate far-right

Extremist groups. The hate will spread.

And people will ask, "How could this happen?"

While they're burying the dead.

Alarming

Because of the boarish president,

Who grabs more power every day

And cannot handle criticism,

More firings are underway.

The current victim, Jimmy Kimmel,

Has been fired by ABC

Because of the man in the Oval Office--

The power-hungry SOB.*

So insecure is Donald Trump

That he'll put pressure on any station

And threaten to take its license away--

Another form of domination.

Trump's oligarchs will soon

Control all media outlets, and so

Our right of freedom of expression

Will be dealt a heavy blow.

Benjamin Franklin was asked what type

Of government we had. He said,

It's "a republic--if we can keep it."

But that's now hanging by a thread.

Most Republicans don't mind

Trump's tactics--his strong-arming.

They have ceded their power to him.

That is terribly alarming.

Calling It What It Is

If someone builds a multimillion-dollar

Fortune teaching folks to scorn and fear

People who are different from them,

Is that person one we should revere?

And if that person uses racist language

That white supremacists all love to use

And ties himself to Christian nationalists

With whom he shares extreme, repulsive views

And calls our many immigrants invaders,

Thus stirring up contempt, disdain, and dread,

And also says he has a preference

For the days when gays were stoned till dead

And normalizes bigotry and hatred,

Should that person then be idolized?

It seems to me that there would be more reasons

For him to be distrusted and despised.

If that person lacks the decency

To care about the people whom he slights

And says that violence is very often

Necessary to protect our rights

And later he becomes the hapless victim

Of the violence that he promoted,

It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy:

To die from views to which one is devoted.

They say the dead should not be talked about

With words of malice; we should be forgiving.

But should someone be glorified in death

If he was reprehensible while living?

Milking a Tragedy

Folks on the Right are up in arms.

Frankly, they are going berserk

After the death of one of their

Provocateurs, Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was mired in controversy.

His death was tragic, nonetheless.

But Trump is wildly lashing out

Instead of trying to decompress.

He's NOT decrying violence

In ALL forms. Instead, he chooses

To tear into people with vengeance and hatred--

A strategy he always uses.

He and his fawning admin team--

Mostly grounded in wild delusions--

Before they even know all the facts,

Are quick to jump to crazy conclusions.

When asked about domestic attacks,

Trump didn't even pause.

He said that far-right perpetrators

Promote, of course, a worthy cause.

It's folks on the Left, he said, who are

The evil ones and must be stopped.

What will the new authoritarian

Measures be that he'll adopt?

People have been fired from jobs

For merely having expressed their views

Regarding Kirk and his agenda.

That has been all over the news.

Trump will demonize his critics,

But will he focus on reason? Never.

We HAVE TO stress the truth and facts

In this country more than ever.

A Modern Ballad

(This poem could be sung to the melody of Tom Lehrer's song "An Irish Ballad: Rickety Tickety Tin.")

A dangerous person is on the loose--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

A dangerous person is on the loose.

He carries around a hangman's noose.

The government won't tell him vamoose.

RFK Jr.'s° his name--

His name--

RFK Jr.'s his name.

Conspiracy theories he knows well--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

Conspiracy theories he knows well.

Like rotten fish they really smell.

In such a world he likes to dwell.

He plays a dangerous game--

A game--

He plays a dangerous game.

He tells lies about vaccines--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

He tells lies about vaccines,

And he'll resort to any means

To blow our health to smithereens.

And he will be surely to blame--

To blame--

And he will be surely to blame.

Ah, and this is one of his faves--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

Ah, and this is one of his faves:

That cancer is caused by Wi-Fi waves.

By using it we dig our graves.

That's what he's trying to claim--

To claim--

That's what he's trying to claim.

That shootings are linked to prescription drugs--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

That shootings are linked to prescription drugs

Is one more crazy idea he plugs.

From co-conspirators he'll get hugs.

At science they like to take aim--

Take aim--

At science they like to take aim.

Fluoride causes cancer, says he--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

Fluoride causes cancer, says he,

And AIDS isn't caused by HIV.

But leading experts disagree.

They are not out to get fame--

Get fame--

They are not out to get fame.

People will die because of him--

Sing wackety-tackety-tame.

People will die because of him.

With him in charge our future looks dim.

"Wack job" is his synonym,

And he has no feelings of shame--

Of shame--

And he has no feelings of shame.
